The Bettriq guide

What is Matchbase? A hunch A sample size.

The board flags mispriced odds in real time. Matchbase is how you check why — and build a case in the matches and markets it isn't watching as closely, with every stat shown alongside the number of matches behind it.

Matchbase, in numbers
Matchbase historical match database

Every finished match Bettriq has data for — broken down by team, opponent, referee and lineup, so a claim always comes with its sample size.

57,787finished matches

The core idea

A pattern without an n isn't a pattern.

Bettriq's board tells you what's happening right now — which price is wrong, and by how much. It was never built to answer a different, equally useful question: what actually tends to happen when this team plays at home, or without their first-choice striker, or under a particular referee. That's a research question, and research questions need history, not a single snapshot.

Matchbase is that history — every finished match Bettriq has data for, broken down by team, opponent, referee and lineup, with the sample size printed next to every number. The whole point is refusing to let three matches look as authoritative as thirty, especially when a real pattern is what separates a bet worth backing from one that just looks right.

Why it exists: the board answers "what's happening right now." Matchbase answers "what's happened before" — corner rates, cards, shots, dangerous attacks and player minutes, broken down until you can actually judge whether a pattern is real.

Why it matters for betting

Three ways this actually changes a bet.

The board already does the real-time price comparison. Matchbase is for everything around that decision — before you place it and after you're wondering why the price moved.

SANITY-CHECK

Is the flag actually backed by something?

The board says a price is wrong — Matchbase tells you whether the team's corner rate, card count or shot volume genuinely supports it, or whether you'd be trusting a number built on four matches.

GO WHERE THE BOARD DOESN'T

Build your own angle.

The board watches the markets it's built to watch. Smaller leagues, player-level markets and fringe stats are exactly where a manually-built case — yours — can find something the automated model hasn't priced yet.

EXPLAIN THE MOVE

Understand why a price shifted.

A price moves the moment a key player is ruled out. The with/without split shows you exactly how much that player is actually worth to the team's numbers — not a guess, a history.

What's inside

Every stat, split every way that matters.

Pick a league and a season, and Matchbase breaks every team's numbers down for you — offensive and defensive, home and away, with a real sample size on each one.

Goals / Goals against Corners / Corners against Shots / On target Dangerous attacks Yellow / Red cards Fouls / Offsides Throw-ins Possession % xG / xGA / npxG xG from corners
Head-to-head + Referee patterns + With/without a player = An angle the board can't show you

Three tools built on top of the raw stats above — the reason to actually open Matchbase instead of just reading a table.

Real example — Eliteserien referees, min. 10 matches
Lowest yellow-card averageEivind Bodding — 2.82/game (n=12)
Highest yellow-card averageKristoffer Hagenes — 4.18/game (n=39)
Spread between them+48%

That's not a made-up illustration — it's a live read from the referee table. A near-50% swing in cards depending on who's holding the whistle is exactly the kind of thing that's invisible from the board alone, and exactly the kind of thing worth checking before trusting a cards market. The n next to each name is what makes it usable — a spread built on 39 matches means something different than the same spread built on four.

How to use it

Three questions Matchbase actually answers.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

How do these two actually play each other?

Pick both teams in a matchup and see their history against each other side by side, in the same league and season scope as everything else on the page — not two numbers from two different contexts.

WITH / WITHOUT

Does this team change without their key player?

Select a team and a player, and Matchbase splits every match into "started" vs "didn't start" — corners, cards, goals, all of it. Uses every season in the base by default, because one season alone is usually too thin to trust.

REFEREE PATTERNS

Does the referee move this market?

Cards, fouls and offsides per referee, ranked with sample size shown — the same table the worked example above came from, for any league you're looking at.

nthe number
that matters most

The catch.

Matchbase doesn't predict anything — it shows you what's already happened, and lets you decide if the pattern is real or just noise. xG only exists for around half the leagues covered — Sportmonks' own data gap, not something we can fill in. A team with a strong home corner rate on 8 matches is not the same claim as the same rate on 40; the page won't hide the difference, but it also won't stop you from ignoring it.

It's Silver tier and above — the same numbers a paying research angle is built on, not something we give away for free and then also sell.

FAQ

Fair questions.

Is this the same thing as the model that flags value bets?

No — Matchbase is the research layer, not the pricing engine. The board compares Bettriq's read on a match against bookmaker prices in real time; Matchbase lets you dig into the history behind that read yourself, on your own terms.

Why does the sample size matter so much?

Because averages lie by omission. "This team scores 2.1 goals a game" sounds the same whether it's built on 4 matches or 40, but only one of those numbers should change how you bet. Matchbase shows n everywhere specifically so that distinction never gets lost.

Does it cover lower divisions, or just the big leagues?

90 leagues as of today, ranging from Champions League and the Premier League down to smaller domestic divisions — coverage follows what's actually being tracked on the board, so it grows as that does.

Why is xG missing for some leagues?

It's a genuine data gap upstream, not a choice we made — Sportmonks' xG coverage runs at roughly half of the leagues we track. Every other field (corners, cards, shots, dangerous attacks) is available everywhere Matchbase has matches.
